CONNECTIONS

May 8 – 25, 2019
Artist Talk May 9, at 3 – 4:30 PM

On May 9th at 5 PM, CONNECTIONS, a comprehensive and diverse exhibition introducing the works of Nordic textile artists, opens in the gallery Noorus, Tartu. On the day of the opening, the visitors have a chance to meet the participating artists and representatives of the Nordic Textile Art network.

CONNECTIONS brings together eighteen textile artists from six Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Estonia, and showcases their current works.

Is it textile as a material that speaks to the textile artists or is it the hidden subtext of techniques? Layers, reflections, luster and forms are the keywords giving an insight to the different states of textile materials. In the gallery, airy and sheer fabrics, free-flowing warp, tight-woven surfaces follow clear stiches and precise shapes.

Whilst there are different combinations of materials – wood, rock, plastics, textile plays the connecting role in exhibited works. The authors interpret subjects connected to traditions and nature; abstract works playing on the effect of colour and form alongside with detailed portraits captivate the viewer. The comprehensive exposition is a unique opportunity to meet various authors and see their work. Are there any common denominators in the works of Nordic textile artists?
